Way to go Kutoa community. In December 2020 you voted to provide funds to help children with HIV/AIDS at the Victory+ Kids program. These children had been living in a home together, but with the onset of Covid-19 many of them had to go and live with relatives. Since a number of these children have no surviving parents or their parents are really ill, resettling them temporarily is a challenge. So the Victory Kids staff follow up regularly with their placement and make sure that our support gets to the family so the children have proper nutrition and medicine. When their special drugs are not available through the government system they buy the drugs for the children. All the kids have managed to stay out of hospitals and so far none of the children have contracted Covid-19. This would be serious because the children's immune systems are already compromised. Hopefully they will be among the first to be vaccinated against Covid-19. The other projects we voted for in December are continuing. That is the great thing about Kutoa. Our projects are locally owned and are not going to close their doors without our donations. People will continue to do good with the limited resources they have. And we've added been able to make a big encouragement to the Victory+ Kids program, showing them people everywhere can help people everywhere because everyone matters.
The first time our local partners, Philip Timoti and Lydia Anjuri, became aware of the extreme injustice HIV+ children faced was when they took in a widow and her young children who were rejected by their community and had no place to go. They were abandoned because the woman’s husband, her children’s father, died of AIDS. Their community believed they were cursed and no one would even care for the children.
Our partner saw the deep trauma caused by the discrimination toward this family and many other HIV/AIDS orphans in the region.
GOD LAID A BURDEN ON OUR HEARTS FOR HIV+ CHILDREN AND GAVE US A VISION FOR A PROGRAM TO PROVIDE LOVE, SUPPORT, OPPORTUNITIES AND CARE EVERY CHILD DESERVES." - PHILIP TIMOTI, FOUNDER OF UPHOLD
That was over a decade ago and marked the beginning of the Victory Kids Home—a Partners Kids initiative that responds to the needs of abandoned HIV+ children by providing improved living conditions, access to medication and specialized nutrition plans, educational opportunities, and spiritual care.
Victory Kids improves HIV+ children’s quality of life and supports them with a safe and accepting place to call home.
