While the news cycle changes, the realities for those impacted by the ongoing military conflict in Syria has not.
Millions have been displaced and hundreds of thousands are still on the move.
To date, over 500,000 Syrians have made the perilous journey to Europe in an attempt to be registered by the UNHCR as refugees.
While some are finding homes, a new beginning, in host countries, many others are still left stranded without a clear path to restarting their lives.
In some instances the following is taking place, says Awad, the UNHCR regional coordinator for the Syria Region.
"Refugees are having to adopt negative survival strategies - like child labour, dropping out of school, begging and survival sex. They need much more support"
