DUARS RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT - INDIA
This super organization serves tea plantation labourers and their families in India. The picturesque plantations of West Bengal mask a rough life for many. The Duars (local area name) Rural Development Project provides education and economic development for families. Hundreds of children have graduated from its Cornerstone school campus. These children can escape the generational pattern of illiteracy, poverty, abuse and marginalization. They can improve the well-being of their families on the tea plantations. Education is the sustainable solution to lift families out of poverty. Their main campus houses an orphanage and primary and secondary schools. And they have a large reach through nearly 100 field staff who operate community centres in or near plantations. There is a lot of ethnic conflict in the area as well, which leads DRDP to get involved in providing support to families needing emergency support.
