Uphold serves South Asia's most marginalized tribal people. Uphold mission is to lift them up in a holistic manner. For those familiar with the caste system, these peoples rank below the dalit. Dalit people are the outcast caste. The caste system classifies the tribal beneficiaries of Uphold are sub-human. Uphold brings dignity to these ethnic groups which include the Saura, Volmiki, Bonda Poraja and others. This brilliant organization trains tribal people as outreach workers. Because of their protected status, some tribal communities are inaccessble to non-tribal people. And as tribal people the staff can provide appropriate help and sustainable solutions. Uphold supports its community work with water projects, food distribution and medical care. It also works in Leprosy colonies, runs hostels for disadvantaged children, and has a home for children living with HIV/AIDS.
