Emergency Response to Hunger
Responding to Somalia’s Drought Driven Hunger Crisis
The humanitarian situation in Somalia is rapidly deteriorating. There are 6.2 million people — close to half of the country’s population — threatened by death and severe acute malnutrition. The lack of adequate food has developed into a massive hunger crisis. More than 444,000 people are internally displaced as they search for food, and 8,000 additional people are forced to leave their homes each passing day.
GlobalMedic is working alongside local partners to distribute essential Food Packages to the most vulnerable families, targeting those with young children. The food packages include nutritionally balanced and fortified foods, in addition to micronutrient blends to ensure families have the essential vitamins and minerals they need to recover and stay healthy.
One kit is designed the serve the needs of an entire family, and costs roughly $50.
