Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Dominica

Ksenthwlht6lsm3yqv6r

When disaster strikes, communities are left in a state of utter chaos. Survivors need assistance to stay alive. There are countless barriers for rescuers reaching people in need, such as damaged roadways, bridges, telecommunications infrastructure and collapsed buildings. Information on the extent of the damage, locations of survivors and access routes can take days to surface. Survivors don’t have days to wait for assistance. They need help immediately.

GlobalMedic uses innovative Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technology to bridge this crucial gap following disasters — providing better information to help improve humanitarian coordination and save lives. GlobalMedic is training more UAV pilots to assist with Emergency Mapping and Search and Rescue efforts in disaster affected countries such as Dominica.

Dominica is a small Caribbean country that was devastated by the Category 5 Hurricane Maria. 90% of the country’s infrastructure was damaged including hospitals, airports, roads and communication towers. GlobalMedic’s RescUAV created 95 maps covering 3285 hectares to provide the government of Dominica with essential information to assist with the recovery of their country.

With more pilots trained to fly UAVs in a disaster zone, GlobalMedic will have the capacity to deploy to more disaster zones and provide critical information to the saves lives of the most vulnerable people.
