Water Purification Unit
Rainfresh water purification units are designed to provide microbiologically safe drinking water from virtually any water source (lakes, rivers, ponds, streams or wells) without the use of pumps or electricity. They use Rainfresh’s unique ceramic filtration technology to trap pathogenic bacteria (e.g. E.Coli) and protozoan cysts (e.g Cryptosporidium & Giardia), in addition to reducing sediment and suspended matter down to 0.3 microns (1 micron = 1/1000 mm).
Rainfresh water purification units consist of two separate water containers, both constructed from sturdy, food-grade plastic. The top container holds up to 20 liters of untreated water. It houses four ceramic cartridges through which the untreated water flows under gravity and gets collected in the bottom treated water container. As water passes through the ceramic cartridges, harmful bacteria and cysts are trapped inside and safe drinking water is produced. A spigot provided on the unit dispenses the safe water for use. The unit will purify three litres of clean drinking water per hour.
These units are ideal for use in refugee or internally displaced person’s camps, households and schools. The lightweight nature of the unit and the simplicity in its design allow it be dismantled easily and transported to different locations along with moving populations.
