Sustainable Farming in Tanzania

In the Kilimanjaro region in the north of Tanzania, World Vision has launched a pilot Sustainable Market-led Agriculture and Resource Management (SMART) project to respond to the needs of farmers and their families. This pilot has been successful in providing farmers with access to insurance, micro credit and improved seed varieties to boost agricultural production in meeting local consumption and market demands.

The Sustainable Market-led Argricultural and Resource Management (SMART) project supports farmers with access to credit, high quality seed varieties, organic fertilizer, extension services and developing new markets for their products.

Supporting this project will help farmers build resilience against climate related shocks by encouraging the adoption of conservation agriculture practices, including minimom tillage, mulching and use of cover crops.

This project will work with 147 existing farming groups to develop cooperatives that will directly benefit more than 3,000 farmers in Tanzanian communities.
