Protect Children From Sexual Violence in Bolivia
Sexual violence is a truly global epidemic that leaves millions around the world terrified in their homes, schools and neighbourhoods. Sexual violence can include rape, molestation and other forms of sexual abuse. Although anyone can be a victim of sexual violence, this form of violence most frequently impacts women and girls—and impoverished women and girls are particularly vulnerable.
IJM assists children in La Paz and El Alto who are victims of sexual violence. IJM Bolivia’s team investigates the victims’ respective situations, and intervenes before authorities to promote protection and assist in the prosecution of those responsible for the abuse. IJM works with the Bolivian National Police, the People’s Advocate Office, Prosecution’s office and other government agencies to hold pedophiles accountable for their crimes against children. IJM provides trauma-focused therapy to help children heal from the abuse, and helps children who choose to participate in the trial prepare to share the truth. IJM has also trained investigators in the Bolivian National Police on forensic interview techniques and how to conduct child sexual assault investigations.
